SGA Fanmix: Michael
Thanks to a friend and a challenge, I got into trying out (for my first time) a go at creating a fanmix. I don't know if there's one been done on Lt. Michael Kenmore or not, but I got bitten by a muse to do one on him. I've noticed I had some songs hanging around on my mp3 and felt that different as they were, each fitted Michael nicely. I also included a fic-let that goes along with the mix to explain why I think Michael would be or had been listening to each song chosen (this fanmix contains spoilers for season two of SGA). There's nothing special or fancy about this fanmix - just me hoping I did this correctly. ^_^

Truth and Lies: The Michael Fanmix
Below is a fic-let to go along with the mix.
Michael never really had much to do during his time in Atlantis as Lt. Michael Kenmore, but during his stay he was allowed to have access to a computer - his laptop. It was strange at first, seeing as how he felt as if having one in the first place was odd in its own - it was as if it was his first time ever seeing a laptop. Though at the time he only excused that feeling by saying it must have been the “amnesia” he was having, well according to everyone in Atlantis who keeps telling him that of course.
During his stay in Atlantis, he was not one to have many friends, not even few. The only people who attempted to go near him (on their own free will) were really Teyla and Doctor Beckett. To say he wasn’t bored, not just one bit would be an understatement; he wasn’t even allowed to “re-explore” the city unless accompanied by his “bodyguards” or so he was told.
So once Michael had gotten used to using his laptops which ironically took quite a bit, he found it interesting that he could download music. As much as he was told that he always loved to play music - it still felt as if it was his first time. So because of that reason alone, he had managed to gather as many songs as he could not caring what anyone would say to that. In short, he kept being told he loved music, so why not have a nice amount of it in the first place?

Michael couldn’t shake the feeling that he never felt as confused as he was during his time in Atlantis. He felt as if he didn’t belong within the city or with any of the people there even though he was. He felt so lost that he couldn’t remember anything. Feeling broken inside as if everything he was doing was wrong; all he ever wants to do is be the man he was before, so when he came across this song from The Cardigans, he felt he could relate to the song. All he wants to do is erase the life he has now and rewind back to his old one.

Michael knows he should feel as if he belonged to the life he was in; knowing that Lt. Kenmore is who he is and those people around him - Colonel Sheppard, Teyla, Dr. Weir, Dr. Beckett - all of them are his friends, his family. But he couldn’t understand why every time he entered a room it all seemed - fake? As if he never really knew anyone of them, he couldn’t help thinking - “Is it all pretend?” He had come across this song after hearing it softly from a radio one of the nurses had in the infirmary when he went to go for his daily checkup with Dr. Beckett. The words seem to get stuck within his mind, making him see things he shouldn’t notice.

Some foolish thing, some foolish thing I've done
Michael doesn’t understand women. Though it seems that none of the men in Atlantis does either; the women he has come across, have seemed like exotic fruits, ones that seem beautiful and taste sweet but then again it can be ugly and sour if not handle correctly. He tries to tell himself it must be that all men are not able to understand any women in general, but why does he feel as if this time everyone else is the exception but him. Teyla Emmagan is a beautiful woman. She holds a beauty he couldn’t describe with words, she just simply is. She is also a woman that he has come to admire not only for her strength but for her way of acting - it is different from the other women in the city. He enjoys being near her anytime he can but when she talks to him he finds himself doing something which he finds very weird, something which this songs can totally relate to. He finds himself regretting any bad thing he must have done in his old life to have her so wary of him - cautious. Every time she leaves him alone he asks himself “Was he so bad in the past?”

Michael is not fond of sleeping. He really isn’t. He wonders if he had trouble sleeping in the past as he has now. No matter how many sleeping pills he asks Dr. Beckett for to help him sleep better, the nightmare still keep coming. Michael can’t understand what was happening to him. Was it due to all the military battle he must have been in, in the past? Those things he was attacked by that made him lose his memory in the first place be haunting him? Michael tries to remember the name Colonel Sheppard told him they were called as…the Wraith. They really scare the hell out of him in his dreams; popping around him out of the blue as if they were the predators pouncing on their prey which was him. He can’t help but feel scared but at the same time some small part of him…feels happy to see them. Michael really hates sleeping.

Michael couldn’t believe it as he watched the scenes play out before him on his laptop. He…he was a Wraith? He was those creatures he dreamt about. He couldn’t believe they lied to him so much, even as far as to experiment on him. Everything he knew, everything he believed in - all lies, all damn lies. He felt just as lost as he first awoken in that infirmary when the lies first started. He was played like a fool, no one ever cared about him, no one ever was his friend, and no one ever was his family. He was a toy. Everyone lied; he remembers faintly this song that he once downloaded a while back thinking it had a nice beat to it but this time the words come back to haunt him. Lies…lie from everyone, about everything, he couldn’t hear no more, he wouldn’t hear no more. Why should he bother to listen if all he hears is lies?

You think your in control but you make me sick

Michael never thought he could feel so much hate towards anyone like he did that moment when the truth was out. He glared at them all - Sheppard, Beckett, all of them. They used him, lied to him, thinking they could control him with ease and once he found out the truth they treated him like garbage - trash. He remembers a song that sums up all his anger, all his hate towards them. They hurt him, broken the only thing pure in him in this “new life” they had given him - his innocence. Don’t they understand that they made him suffer deeply inside? They took him from his home; from what he truly was and changed him as if what he was was a disease, was “impure”. Michael makes a promise to himself; they will suffer, suffer as much as he has.

Michael did the only thing that came to his mind after finding out the truth about what he was. He did all that he could to escape. He wanted to be away - gone; away from them. Why couldn’t they let him go? He was a Wraith wasn’t he? Evil? So why couldn’t they leave him alone. They have already hurt him so much already. They taken two life’s away from him now, wasn’t that enough? He notices them try to get closer to him, he feels like a trapped animal, cornered. His eyes are wild with pain and hate, he shouts to them to get away, to not to touch him. He has a gun in his hand. A soldier tries to get closer to him, to capture him. He does something which scares him, something which he never thought he could do as Lt. Michael Kenmore. He squeezed the trigger. He just killed a man and doesn’t care.

Michael remembers when she came to visit him when he was placed in a cell waiting his “judgment” as if he were the one in wrong. He killed a man, but he doesn’t care; he would kill many more for the wrongs they done to him first. Wasn’t that the old human saying he learned when he believed in them, “a tooth for a tooth, an eye for an eye”? What they did to him, he was entitled revenge and he wasn’t done. But what hurt him the most was that she was into all the lies as well. The one he adored the most, hurt him the most - Teyla. He remembers yelling at her, accusing her of lying, of never truly caring for him, never truly being his friend - his only friend. He tried to close off his mind to her, but she stood there in front of his cell still spurting out more lies, trying to give him those sad pathetic caring eyes she has given to him in the past. He can’t help but once again be memorized in her deep almond colored eyes. She seemed so sincere. Did she truly think what the others done to him was meant to help him? Did she try to mean good will? Michael never felt so confused in his feelings towards a person; he looked into her eyes and deeply into them wishing beyond hope that he too could see the purity and joy of the world she was in, because all he was living in was a hell.

Michael remembers the next time he saw Teyla; it was in a camp in some planet he was brought too. He was too much to be within the city limits anymore, that he should be taken away from it and sent away - as if he was a mere trash they can throw away at please. He remembers being strapped down to some sort of a chair with restraints. He was too wild to be loose huh? He could hurt someone? He had to give them that, he would have hurt anyone that was near him if he could and he had every right. Michael remembers trying to ignore her as she stood next to him trying to feed him, trying to be “friendly” with him once more. He sighed deeply, defeated emotionally at the moment as he takes in her face as he watches her with sad eyes which are reflecting his broken soul. He gives her a sad smile as he remembers a song he heard once in his time in Atlantis; one that seemed pretty in a sad sort of way that he had to get a copy for himself. He looks at Teyla confused and also sad face and asks her one small question - “So this is my happy ending?”

Michael stood within the quarters of his room in the hive ship. He just finished from debriefing to his new Queen. Her reaction towards what has been done to him ranged from horror, disgust, and anger; she promised to help him achieve his revenge. He sighed sadly to himself knowing full well that he may not be welcomed well within the wraith community due to what was done to him. Throughout everything that has happen, throughout all the pain and anger, only one thing stood out to him the most in his mind and heart - her. It’s funny how as a Wraith he never felt the need for feelings, emotions but he wasn’t your ordinary wraith now was he? No he wasn’t thanks to the people of the Lost City. He closed his eyes and lay down on his bed as he unconsciously sung a part of a song that if he remembers correctly it was tilted ‘Love and Memories’. Teyla - he couldn’t stop thinking of her. She was everything he ever wanted when he was Lt. Michael Kenmore - she became more special to him than he ever thought he could ever feel about anyone. Now she’s gone, just a mere memory that Michael couldn’t get away from. A memory that he so wished for to be true.
