Title: The Sweetest of Oranges
Challenge: 10 - But to see her was to love her
Pairing: Ron/Padma
Genre/Warnings (as applicable): Fluff overdose (I think that's a warning, honestly).
Rating: G
Notes: Never tried this pairing before, and I'm not too big on it either, but this was much fun to write. Hope you enjoy it! :)
10 - But to see her was to love her
Then he saw her face. She was smiling up at him, brightly, from a far distance. Yet it felt so close. Too close. He could feel droplets of sweat burn his cheeks, hands trembling in their pockets.
Now she is gone.
*
He
knows her, of course. He’s even been on a date with her before (and
when he counts that lousy failure at that Yule Ball they had when they
were fourth years at Hogwarts, he dated her twice), but it had only
been a set-up double date when Harry suddenly felt the hots for Parvati
and obviously felt sorry for Ron’s break-up with Hermione.
So he dated her, and it sucked.
But she had been gazing up at him, and manhelikedthatfeeling.
He has only seen a glimpse of her smile in the noisy crowd of Diagon
Alley, but he loves that grin and he recognizes it and it feels good.
*
The next time they meet, he pulls her closer, suddenly, and adds with a low mumble: “So you can’t escape me twice.”
She
giggles, covering her mouth with her hand, and stares at the ground.
Ron is suddenly very aware of the blush he must have on his face, a red
matching his hair. He’s glad she can laugh and that she doesn’t turn
her back on him in confusion or disgust.
She’s nice. Very nice.
They go drink some coffee at a nearby café and he grins.
*
Ron
likes the way her hair is raven-black, a shade like dark satin, smooth
and soft and with tiny curls at the sides of her head. Her skin seems
silky, sweet and beautiful and her eyes are glowing topazes, bright and
blinding him with their color.
Needless to mention, he can’t keep his eyes off her when he sips his latte, as slowly as possible as to not end this ‘date’.
Is it a date?
He
doesn’t know. They haven’t talked for so long. Their contact sort of
watered when Harry split up with the former-love-of-his-life Parvati
Patil and Padma suddenly hadn’t seemed so interested in Ron anymore.
Not that they had been together, a couple, ever.
He wishes they were.
*
It
is totally unexpected when she takes him to a nearby alley, pulling him
by the shirt, and pushing him against the cold, stone wall.
She likes it rough, it seems.
A flash of warmth surges through his body as his lips cover hers, and his hands envelope her at the back, and she is tiny and ohsofragile but he likes that and pulls her in closer. It’s hot, warm and goodgoodgood and he doesn’t want this kiss to end. She tastes of strawberries, of India, and the sweetest of oranges.
God.

When they part, they stare at each other in a moment of confusion, but Ron knows that today is a day with a new beginning.
