I went scrumping today.
Well, the entire expedition lasted about ten minutes from leaving my flat to returning, but I think it counts. Yesterday while heading out for the shops (via St Davids Hill) I found an apple tree behind the fence that separates this estate from the railway. On closer inspection, the tree seems to be in the garden of an abandoned, derelict house on the corner - but that is quite clearly completely abandoned, and there are a lot of nice, ripe apples rotting on the ground, and it seems a shame to let them go to waste. I managed to reach one, picked it and ate it on the way to Sainsbury's. This evening, I went back out there with a bag and my walking poles, and picked seven more - the ripe ones that were in reasonably easy reach. I'll be back for more...
