Today a dear friend and former workmate of mine Sue passed away having lost her three year battle with cancer.
My heart aches for her girls - both of whom gave up work and moved back home last year to be with her and help her out, one of them moving back from her job interstate.
Everyone who knew Suzie loved her. She touched so many and that's evidenced by the amount of people who still call our office a year after she stopped working asking after her. Barristers, lawyers from other firms, client's and others in the local community have all been in touch today to offer condolences.
It's been a long tough battle, and not unexpected as she was told in August they'd run out of options and she only had weeks to live - once again she confounded her doctor's and battled on.
At least she's not suffering now.
I have two conflicting verses (or partial verses) stuck in my head at the moment.
W. H. Auden
Stop all the clocks, cut off the telephone,
Prevent the dog from barking with a juicy bone,
Silence the pianos and with muffled drum
Bring out the coffin, let the mourners come.
...
The stars are not wanted now: put out every one;
Pack up the moon and dismantle the sun;
Pour away the ocean and sweep up the wood.
For nothing now can ever come to any good.
M.E. Frye
Do not stand at my grave and weep,I am not there; I do not sleep.I am a thousand winds that blow,I am the diamond glints on snow,I am the sun on ripened grain,I am the gentle autumn rain.When you awaken in the morning’s hushI am the swift uplifting rushOf quiet birds in circling flight.I am the soft starlight at night.Do not stand at my grave and cry,I am not there; I did not die.
