ok so warning: LONG LONG RANT about school-related issues which those of you who are blessed with academic apathy and are just naturally intelligent will find completely boring. you know, upon reflection, pretty much everyone will find this post boring, regardless of your academic involvement so really, you shouldn't be reading this. seriously, stop.
so i haven't updated in a bajillion years however, avoidance of work is now at a premium and really - i had a horrible day. i was in a surprisingly good mood though for a bad day, if that makes any sense (which means i only broke down crying once). well, first off, i had two midterms. one at 10 in spanish and one at 2 for modern poetry. as the professors were handing these out (separate classes mind you) each said something along the lines of "i don't mean to insult your intelligence by how easy this is" which is you know, either an entirely reassuring thing to say or just a shitty, shitty, SHITTY ASS thing to say. the spanish test was sooo long and honestly, i'm an idiot in spanish which you know, is great. then the modern poetry one ... was SO. HARD. No seriously, SO HARD. it was terrible. the moment he said that whole, this is so easy thing, i almost started crying AND the worst thing of everything is the fact that i actually studied. if you to to ask say, "hey ashley, were you studying all afternoon for many hours straight in the student center?" i would have to reply, "yes, yes i was studying in shapiro for many hours and then after the student center, i studied in my room for hours more and then in the lounge so yes, i'd have to say i studied a lot". for modern poetry, he was going to give us 9 "passages" (haha, he uses the word passage VERY loosely) from the waste land and we'd have to do six - meaning, identify where specifically in the poem it came from, what it means and it's contribution to the themes of the poem as a whole. now i don't know if anyone reading this (if you are actually still reading at this point, i admire your endurance) has read the waste land, but first off, it's really hard and long (seriously over 430 lines) and his idea of a "passage" is an average of five WORDS. yes, you read that correctly, FIVE WORDS. he maxed out on that that was ten. one of them, wasn't even in english! eliot gave us footnotes for all foreign languages. did you, morrison? why no - no you didn't. also, he said that he would take stuff from what we talked about in class. were half of them from stuff we didn't talk about? why yes - yes they were. this coupled with the loss of keys (oh yes, and with keys i mean my life and by life i mean my bank card and id - which by the by cost TWENTY DOLLARS TO REPLACE) has made for a shitty ass day. if you were to ask, "ashley, were you walking around in the rain trying to find your keys?" i'd have to reply, "why yes, yes i was" there's really a lot more to the key situation which sucks a lot of ass at 1:21 am i don't have the energy to get into. but yes, i'm sorry - this was a terribly boring post but i just wanted to say a giant
FUCK YOU NOVEMBER 9, 2005, SUCK IT!
