Up at the crack of dawn again. Why is it that travel requires you to get up at such unnatural times of the day?
It's weird, but it works. Plus? Ireland!

Arrived in Dublin! Exhausted - I do wish I could sleep on a plane. We hit the Sky Club lounge at JFK for our 8 hour layover. Very nice! Arrived in Dublin, checked in to our hotel and then wandered thru the Archeology and History Museum, then Grafton street to people watch and window shop. Shenanigans have started - we were both randomly interviewed by Irish radio about using pet names. Hilarious. Dinner at Harry's and a ridiculous early night.

Crazy fun day today. Took the bus tour thru most of Dublin. Some gorgeous buildings and sights. Those pix are all on the real camera so they'll have to wait till I'm home. Saw the Guinness storehouse and spent some quality time in the Gravity Bar (after the tour) with both mine and Kaoime’s pints of Guinness. Had a proper cup of tea before touring the Jameson distillery where we were both declared to be official tasters. Finished the day with the Irish House Party - very fun!

Irish trad at Sheehan's in Killarney. I swear there's music happening!
May 28 at 3:22pm ·
Spent the night at this lovely hotel. Started our day at Kilkenny Castle. We then drove down to Blarney to hit the woolen mill store and lunch at the cafe. And then things went a bit off kilter. We decided to go the Charles Fort in Kinsale. Pam, the GPS unit, decided to send us south on another series of "Bob's road" and then totally lost her marbles and sent us up an unpaved road with ruts bigger than the Cactus! We made it out and took the long way round to Kinsale, where things closed early for some reason. Ah well. Drombeg stone circle it is.... and then we realized how late we would be in getting to Killarney. Gorgeous country that we spent the day driving through - made it totally ok in the end. Had dinner and went to Sheehan's for some more Irish trad. Fun day. #shenanigans #inadvertantadventure #offroadshenanigans #wtfPam

Ross Castle is very cool. Dingle Peninsula is gorgeous. Spent most of the day seeing the sights and attended a wonderful concert at Siopa Ceoil an Daingin. Once I figure out the names of the musicians I'll share... awesome day. All the really good photos are on the camera.

A wonderful day today. Left our lovely B&B and headed north. We stopped at the Lios Stone Circle. Magical place; so beautiful and powerful. From there we went to Bunratty Castle. Very cool - somehow I've always envisioned the banquet hall as a much larger space. The stairs are so narrow that all the people there were backing up or holding off while others passed by them. It's nicely set up, but I can't imagine being there when it's crowded. We only walked thru part of the folk park portion. The peat smoke was nice for about 2 minutes, then it was enough. After lunch we went to the Burren and the Poulnabrone dolmen. Fantastic and wild. Took so many pictures today that I exhausted all the batteries for my camera. And what a way to end the day. Staying in a castle! We're at Ashford Castle in Cong, where The Quiet Man was filmed. We got settled and then walked around the stunning grounds. Had drinks in the Prince of Wales bar and dinner in the Dungeon restaurant. :-) Posh room for the night. Great treat for ourselves too!

Sad to leave our wonderful room at the castle but adventure called! Made a stop at the Quiet Man cottage. Total tourist cheese and I loved it. The original cottage is now a ruin - too many souvenir takers apparently - but the museum recreation is very nice. After that, we drove across the country to Belfast. A quick consult stop and then on to the Titanic Experience. Pretty cool setup. We were pretty close to being the last admissions, so we got hustled through towards the end. I could see going again at some point, and would highly recommend it.

We're in Belfast for a couple of days. Yesterday was nice and mellow. Dropped Kaoime off at her appointment then went to do laundry. Even laundry can be fun when you are travelling. Took the bus tour to see the city. The driver and guide were fantastic, and so funny. I stayed with them the whole tour. Might go round and hop off a couple of places today. Lots of other things to see!
Still can't get a good shot of this on my phone. The exterior is supposed to look like the bow of the Titanic in full scale. There are four points so that, from above, it looks like a star in honor of White Star Lines.

Had a marvelous day. (And I'm now running out of superlatives! Every other corner we turn gets exclamations like 'beautiful', 'gorgeous', 'pretty', 'wish you were here!'...) Visited Belfast Castle and Carrickfergus Castle this morning. When Kaoime was finished, we drove up to the Giant's Causeway. Good heavens, that place is fantastic. Long and exhilarating day topped off with a nice birthday dinner at the hotel as we were both too tired to either walk or drive to dinner elsewhere. Bonus - cake tomorrow!

Another day full of fun and shenanigans. Started off by leaving Belfast behind - it was grand being there for three days. Went to the Linen Museum in Lisburn. As you might imagine, the two fabric geeks were entranced. It was very cool to visit and we got to talk with a couple of the ladies who are spinners and weavers at the museum. The process is fascinating - now I want to come back and learn how to do it. Sadly, there are now only three hand weavers left who use these looms. After a drool fest in the store we headed south to Kells. We did get to see the Market Cross and the round tower, but missed the rest by about 5 minutes. I'm not too sad though, since were able to drive over to see the Lough Crew Cairns. Wow. The climb was a bitch but the views are stunning and the Cairns are very interesting and special places. Once again, we were just that much too late to go inside the big Cairn but it was impressive anyway. The countryside is so gorgeous I had to resort to supercalifragilisticexpialidocious. I did say I was running out of superlatives... Tomorrow - Newgrange, Tara, Trim and whatever else we can manage. Can't wait!

What a glorious day - another gorgeous stunner. The weather is fantastic. Today we did all the things! Knowth and Newgrange were spectacular. Climbed to the top of Knowth - the view is incredible. I can see why people built up there for so long. Newgrange was also extremely cool. Going into the passage was really amazing, the carvings are still perfect as is the ceiling, and the simulated solstice is a kick. I'd love to win a spot in the lottery to see the real solstice happen! After lunch we went to the Hill of Tara. Sadly the stone did not cry out for anyone while we were there. Such a peaceful and lovely place. It is nearly surrounded by hazel trees, which are in full bloom and smelled so sweet. We also made it to Trim Castle in time for the final tour of the day. I loved the way they laid out the tour - and the place is just fantastic. Apparently I like ruins...

Another beautiful day in Ireland, and sadly our last. We stayed at a charming B&B last night and ended up yakking away with our fellow travelers at breakfast. Drove back to Dublin to finish all the things! Trinity College and the Book of Kells. Yay, pages I had not seen in person again (Carol will understand). Took a walk around Dublin Castle and the castle garden. It was such a warm and sunny day that it was hard to see the whole pattern of the snake paths. Still pretty cool though. We did a few stops on the tour bus and were able to see Christ Church Cathedral, where the fabulous choir was rehearsing. Holy cats that was awesome. Some gorgeous floors here as well. Took a walk through the crypt (it's enormous!) then managed to catch the bells ringing when we went back outside. Glorious - I missed a few notes but recorded the whole thing. Here's the real awesome for the day - we are staying at Clontarf Castle. Yes, that Clontarf Castle. <3. Will have to take more pictures before we leave in the morning. It's incredible! And, once again, causing shenanigans so all the really good photos are on the camera. This has been an amazing trip. I can't wait to see my dog though!
I'll try to get a readable picture of this tomorrow...

Dropped off the Cactus at the car rental this morning. I already miss it....fun car. And duty free shopping commences!
June 7 at 7:58am ·
We left Ireland behind us yesterday. It was a marvelous trip. Our flight took us home through Paris. We did a little duty-free shopping in Dublin. Yay fun whiskey! Sadly, it was not to happen in Paris. Our first flight was late and we barely made our connecting flight. Our luggage, on the other hand, did not. You know it's a bad sign when the baggage carousel stops moving with insight of your bags... We were not the only ones, so there was company at the desk whilst we filled out paperwork. Pat met us at the airport and we made one pit stop so I could buy a couple of days worth of clothes and a second for coffee. We were at about the 24 hour mark by the time we reached their house. What a long day! Thanks for joining us on our adventures. I am really glad we did this trip! Cannot wait to get home to my dog. I know he's been having fun with his Auntie Olivia but I miss his furry face.

This morning I am up with the dawn patrol, since the airline called to let me know they were on their way with my bag. So, I'm fortifying for the day with a cappuccino in my gigantic mug from the Guinness Storehouse. The trip to Ireland was absolutely wonderful, as was spending an extra day in Wisconsin with Kaoime and Pat. My return flight was almost an hour late, which left me about 10 minutes to run from one end of the A gates to the other in Detroit. Huff puff...wheeze. The flight attendants had pity and gave me a bottle of water before I sat down. The best part though was that this time the bag I had checked *also* made the flight. Woot! Sadly, one of the cool 3-in1 Clontarf whiskey bottles broke in the bag. WAH. The other bottles arrived in good condition though, so yay. And, hooray!, my bag from the trip just arrived at my house. Sweet. Bixby is following me around a bit, which does not surprise me in the least. Puppy cuddles are the best. Which is what I will be doing for a while today, because, yay jet lag!
My new favorite mug...
Alcohol abuse! The really sad part is, it's the one I hadn't gotten to try at the duty free shop. Wah. Cool idea though - three small bottles that stack up like one whole bottle. Makes me wonder if I'd just settled on one of them if it would have even broken. Probably not. Alas.
