How I've come to know grace through my job

in the work i do as a therapist
my mission is to bring a gentle emergence
i help in the lifting out of fog and dark repression
all the knowing and gifts that exist wrapped within our pains and losses
i have to be so patient
i meet a person or family and immediately feel where there are located emotionally
i don't rush or push people or act like i have the right answer
i offer insight, fan the flames of their own insight, and build comfort in the healing process
in many ways people come to me because they want to know why
they do want to be told what's going on and what to do
but before any of that, even if they don't realize it
first
they need to be listened to, seen, accepted just as they are
i don't say it directly because its not professional
but if a person lets me see them for long enough
i do grow to love them a great deal
i love their strength, the way they talk about themselves with a bit more spark
i love every messy human thing about them
i share what i think, the connections i make
i talk excessively about feelings because i am a feelings educator
i want to spread the good word about emotions
i want people to use them, respect them, transform them
when i get to be part of someone's emotional re-birth i am living within the space of our infinite potential
a lot of people have a relationship with God or have a spiritual path
mine has never been clear to me and i do not choose any church, dogma, or theological perspective
i choose to be a person who shares compassion, love, and hope
and as i work in the community to lift others up, i am entering further and further
into a state of grace and deep emotional satisfaction that is not based in external changeable things
and for this i grow new branches
and fuller, more vibrant leaves
and fruit for this earth
