Today (Monday, 2/16/2009) we had a reprint strip where Liz is awake and crying in the middle of the night and Elly cannot figure out why. For those interested, I'll post what happens in the next couple of strips in the original run, behind the cut.
The very next strip that appeared was the one where Elly calls her mommy and says, "I had an awful night with the kids, Mom. I was up every half hour! --Yeah, first one, then the other. You don't get a chance to even think about yourself. --I guess you went through all this with Phil and me, didn't you. ..Er--Mom...... Did we ever thank you?"
[I can't recall whether LJ has already reprinted that one.]
Then the next can only be considered related in the most tangential way. Connie and Elly are with their kids at the playground. While Elly pushes Lizzie on the swing, Connie says, "We're lucky to have the choice of having or not having more kids, Elly." Next panel, Lizzie is standing on the ground reaching up for Elly to pick her up as Connie tells her, "My mother really had her hands full--I was the youngest of 6 girls!" Elly, in the third panel, holds Liz as she and Connie watch Mike and Lawrence playing in the sandbox, and tells Connie, "Your mom must have WANTED a large family, Connie." Then in the last panel, Lawrence and Michael have come close to hear Connie say, "--Not exactly, I was my father's last try for a boy."
Then the strips move onto something completely different.
So I am guessing we'll get either at least three new-runs this week, or an abrupt change of topic.
