Television Without Pity and I go way back. I was with them right from the beginning, and before that I was on Mighty Big TV, and before that, Dawson's Wrap. Ten years. Yikes!
Here's my gripe: I'm really tired of recappers referring to characters by the names of their former characters (or by made-up names). The first recap of the new 90210 was done by the excellent Kim, who used to recap The Real World when TWoP still did Real World recaps (and I still watched and cared about that show). She did a great job, as I'd expect. But it turned out she was only subbing for another recapper assigned to the show. This other recapper came in for episode #2, and she decided she had to refer to Lori Laughlin as "Aunt Becky" (for her Full House role) and Rob Estes as "Lorenzo" (for his role in Silk Stalkings). I wouldn't have minded if she'd done this once, but she did it for the entire recap. Which makes me want to not read any more of the recaps. The same goes for Project Runway and the recapper calling Suede "Rayon." (Yeah, he's pompous and refers to himself in the third person, but calling him "Rayon" is about as annoying as him calling himself "Suede.")
I know there's a long tradition of this practice, predating Dawson's Wrap to the days of the original 90210
wrap-ups Danny Drennan used to do on his site. But I think it's time for the tradition to end.
I almost suggested this in their suggestion forum, but then I remembered one of their show FAQs had a reference to "that's not X character's name" and a dismissive answer. So I decided to complain here instead. :)
