Catching up - Part 1

Dec 18, 2007 00:11

First of all, let me thank all the people who sent me notes of condolence and concern over the death of my cat Friskie. She was a lovely lady, and I still miss her every day. The oddest thing is that I still keep thinking she is here - I turn my head expecting to see that form of beautiful black fur on her favorite pillow, or open the front door and wait for her to scamper down the steps. A week ago I got a 24-hour flu that made me miserable, throwing up, etc, and how strange it felt to lie there without her, who was always my constant companion when I was ill in bed. I still wake up at night and turn over carefully so as not to disturb her. Years of habit are hard to break. My husband says that she was like a gentle spirit in the house and that he still feels her gracious presence. So, thank you all. And bless lilybaggins, who sent me an adorable children's book from her own past about losing a pet that was a great comfort. Also an extra shout-out to mews1945, claudia603 and alchemilla for your sweet bearhugs.

I've felt like I haven't been able to be very present in lj, having a lot of work in real life and feeling a bit depressed by missing Friskie and being sick. But I am trying to get back to a positive energy (having lovely birthday greetings from my flist has helped!), and am very excited about the fact that my daughter will be flying home Wednesday night to spend the holiday and my mother will be visiting Xmas week.

One thing that I worried about was that I wasn't able to start work on the Yule stories I promised as gifts until today. But never fear; those who requested a story will get a fic, even if it's after Christmas. Also, if you are on my flist and would like a story but didn't get a chance to request one, take this as another invitation.

P.S. Please note the lovely icon gifted me by the talented annwyn55.
