The next part of my spring break was spent on Fitzroy island. We took an overnight bus from Airlie Beach to Cairns, and immediately caught the ferry to Fitzroy. The first thing I saw when arriving was a giant floating trampoline, which I immediately resolved to conquer before leaving the island. There was only one ‘resort’ on the island, with decent hostel accommodation (save a late night lizard intruder). We did some hiking around, saw some sights, and relaxed by the pool, still exhausted from the past 3 days of sailing. THEN, the TRAMPOLINE! Justin, Bobbie, Diana, and I paid our three bucks and braved the jellyfish infested ocean for a swim out to our floating adversary. I do not remember the last time I have had so much fun forgetting that I wasn’t still 10 years old. We played the mimicking trick game, when u have to do a trick, then the next person does yours, and adds one, and so forth. It was hilarious! (c’mon! bug crawl! BUG CRAWL!, knees, stomach, DEATH! GO!). we also used a large inflated protrusion off the side of the tramp as a crazy slip-n slide diving board, and proceeded to play American Gladiator balance games and such. It was a trip. It was a chill evening, dinner at the only restaurant on the island, pitchers of beer, and pool. Bed early enough, but somehow never enough sleep. We were up again in the am, for breakfast, and our KAYAK adventure! Our guides were uber-cute and really funny guys. I couldn’t take any pictures on the kayaking trip (for obvious logical reasons). Jolene and I were partners in out double kayak, and we were hard-core. We circumnavigated the whole island by the end of the trip, but stopped half way at ‘little fitzroy’ for lunch and a crazy scenic hike, done in barefeet and bathing suits. Our guide, Guy, led us up and down mountain goat-esque trails and had us climbing rocks and nearly spelunking on the way back to our kayaks. We went up to the very highest point on the island, on the little makeshift lighthouse. We could see to forever up there. it was incredible! Then off to finish the kayaking! By the end, my forearms were burned and my shoulders numb from the rowing, but it was SO very worth it. We made it back to the resort in time to eat greasy food with our guides and relax a bit before catching the ferry back to cairns, where we had a rockin night out, after happy hour at our hostel bar, at sporties, a local not-your-average sports bar.
