yeah. who knew. i can surf. well, i mean, im not what we call a "surfer" but i definately have the ability to surf. holy crap. i hope boston is enjoying 25 below while i catch some waves...hehe. ok, that was cruel. anway, the trip was as thus
left friday night, went 2 hours south of sydney to a little town called gerrengon (sp?) and 7 mile beach, as its called. spent the evening in a pub with cheap beer and colorful locals. played horrible pool with said locals, and lost.
8am wake up on saturday for our first lesson...this is where the inpossible became possible, so to speak. it moved real quick, and the wakes were plentiful. over the next day and a half we had 3 more lessons, spend mostly in the water, working my arms to DEATH getting up my surf stamina....after i figured out how to actually get up on the board. i have pics, and as soon as i get room internet i'll figure out my new webspace/picture stuff (thanks to russ, the best guy ever).
we spent saturday night having a camp bbq, and then went to another local bar. it was more like a family club from the looks of it, but we totally took over...lone americans dancing to bad covers of old music. lots of drinking, and met my first aussie assholes of the trip. big rugby player and his lacky...ended up back at opur camp, tryin to start fights with our boyz. we went to the beach after the bar, but soon went to bed (afterall we had another 8am wake up this morning). we surfed more, hungover (but not meeee--knock on wood). i ended up doing pretty well...with a little practice and a lot of upper body strength training, i could be well on my way to being a decent surfer.
i already know its gonna be hell balancing work and play here. egad its gonna be hard. wish me luck on not failing out of college while surfing, drinking, and/or getting in touch with my australian side...
