So, my postcolonialism professor and I were discussing major requirements, and how the UCLA department is far too canonical, and how students should be allowed more latitute in making their own decisions as to what they'll study. This email came out of my subsequent agitation ( Read more... )

Meh, I hope what you said at least plants a seed for change.

Though really, I kind of doubt they will.

I wish you went to Reed. You would've liked our English department a lot more AND we'd be going to the same college.

But you said you wanted to teach here, right?
Soon, a grad student from Cal (she's currently working on her PhD) is going to give a lecture and have lunch with students here. It's part of the process for becoming faculty at Reed. Made me think of you.

Anyway, besides being frustrated with your department, how goes?
