A couple of years ago, I applied to adopt a child (one abroad that is, not a child of my own!). I got all the forms, spoke to a lovely lady on the phone about it all, and then realised that I simply couldn't afford it. Student loans don't really have space for extras...I felt terrible for leaving a child in the lurch.
Now, I'm earning much more (telephone research is dull, but pays well), so I'm thinking about trying again! I've had a look at a various sites to see what it involves. The hard part is choosing which charity to go through.
There's World Vision, ActionAid UK, Plan UK and SOS Children that I've found on Google so far. I feel that World Vision is the most trustworthy. (Why I think that, I'm not sure, maybe because it's the only one I've heard of?)
So I've just ordered an infomation pack. It should be here within 48 hours. Yah, cos Royal Mail work that fast :\
