I just remembered this fic; I read it back in the day when it was first posted. The reason for this is that I'm currently writing an essay on Shelley's play The Cenci from 1819, and in his preface to it there crops up this sentence: "The highest moral purpose aimed at in the highest species of the drama [i.e. tragedy], is the TEACHING THE HUMAN HEART, through its sympathies and antipathies, THE KNOWLEDGE OF ITSELF [...]." I wonder if Olivier was quoting this? Either way, when I'm done with all that uni-related stuff I will be in for a reread of this story - something to look forward to :)
