Hey everyone-
About 9 years ago (holy shit, is that right??) I started this community when I was applying to graduate schools, since there was nothing like this out there at the time. Since then I've been the only moderator of this community, which has worked out pretty well until now. We haven't had many disputes, I can't remember any in the last 5 years or so, and the only thing I've had to do lately is delete spam posts and put up our yearly "where are you going to grad school?" post.
However, recently we've begun to be hit by lots of naked lady Russian spam, which I've been deleting as I've come across it, but apparently not fast enough for some members of this community. I'm also no longer a grad student- in fact I'm up for third year review as an assistant prof this year. So I would love if some other people would like to volunteer to be moderators. I would still stay on as moderator and help out out with everything, but this way there will be two (or more) people who can delete spam bots!
Qualifications for moderator:
1) Not being a spambot
2) Not being batshit insane
3) Will delete spam posts
4) Won't delete real posts and/or abuse moderator powers in any way (such as blocking non spam bots who you don't like personally)
5) Someone who checks into LJ frequently anyway would be ideal- I check LJ a least once every other day or so, but if there's someone around here more often that may be better
6) A plan to stick around for awhile to continue to moderate even after you get into grad school
Duties include:
1) Delete spam posts when you see them and ban the posters from this community/report them as spambots
2) there is no #2
3) maybe if people fight in the future you can attempt to diffuse the situation but I don't see this being a huge problem, as it hasn't been a problem for the 9 years we've been around
4) if you want to do things like clean up the tags on the side, that is up to you, but would definitely be appreciated if you did it.
Now taking any and all volunteers! To apply just respond with a comment describing why you are qualified to be moderator according to these criteria, moderator powers for everyone who does!
-Your friendly mod
