How many classes as a non-matriculated student to boost my application?

Hi everyone,

Some people suggest that to bolster the strength of your graduate school application you can enroll as a non-matriculated student before applying as a degree-seeking student. I am considering this option, but I do have a question and would appreciate any and all feedback:

How many classes should one take whereby the committee could be persuaded that one is capable of graduate-level course work? Will one class suffice, or should more be taken?

Thanks!
