(no subject)

I'm applying to media and culture PhD programs. My research interest or intended dissertation topic is a social history of Grey's Anatomy and the queering of the show (both cannon and meta). I spend a great deal of time talking about specific topics and methods in my SOP (which isn't quite polished enough for LJ yet). I started this research in my MA program as my Master's Report (think mini-thesis), but I am not using this paper as my writing sample. Instead my sample is a paper that has been published, that is a more appropriate length for a writing sample (20 pgs instead of 45). Should I address my reasonings for using this writing sample (which uses the same methodology as the mini-thesis, but on a different television text) in my SOP?

writing sample, s.o.p, statement of purpose, research interest
