I am writing my SOP and there is a section for me to discuss why my GPA was less than 3.0. It was 2.92. I do have very valid reasons: cancer, serious illnesses of my youngest child, and death of a parent. When I got my A.A., I graduated with a 3.5 and had made Dean's list a few times.
So with that background info, I'd like to ask this question. When I was a young single mother (13 years ago), I was academically dismissed after a semester. After that, I got my A.A. (as mentioned) and ultimately graduated with a B.A. from the university I was dismissed from. The academic dismissal does show up on my transcript. Should I discuss this in my SOP?
