I'm currently pursuing a Masters in Comparative Lit & Cultural Studies and planning to apply to phd. programs in the same area (well, in Literature, English, Lit Theory and Cultural Studies). I've been advised by a couple of people to write to the professors at the schools in which I'm interested.
I've browsed some previous posts about contacting professors and can't seem to find an answer to the two questions that I have.
First, one of the schools to which I'm applying does not have one single prof. working in my area of interest; however, I noticed that there are three professors working on different aspects of my research interests. Would it be okay to mail more than one professor at the same school expressing an interest in their work?
Next, Is it common practice to contact profs in English and Lit before one applies for a phd program? If you contacted them, what would you say? (I don't yet know what my dissertation area will be, but I do have a few areas of interest that I hope to explore further.)
I'd really appreciate any feedback or help on this. Thanks a ton!
