MFA in Painting/Studio...or something else?

I've been reading this community for a while, and it really has helped rekindle my interest in re-entering academia...but I'm not sure what I'd like to study. My undergrad degree is in Fine Arts, and exploring ideas through making things has become a very vital part of my life. Getting an MFA is something I've considered, but I'm worried about the job market both during and after obtaining such a degree. Right now, I am a City Year (a program of AmeriCorps) corps member; this, and many of my other jobs after graduating (in 2006), have leaned heavily toward education and the type of community involvement that makes me believe that sitting in a studio or gallery or classroom is a bit pointless when there is work to be done in the world.

I had considered Social Policy or Nonprofit Management, but those are such a far cry from the studio environment that I crave, even though I believe that disciplines like these will give me the tools I need to do the work of service.

Where do I begin to find program(s) that address this conflict? How can I articulate the ideas I touched upon above in a statement of purpose?
