You might also want to post this question in wgi_lounge_2010: http://community.livejournal.com/wgi_lounge_2010 . Some of the current grad students that lurk in that community might be able to help. I know that several of the current posters have interview offers, or already had their interviews. If you look around the late January/early February posts in wgi_lounge_2009, or the wgi English community from 2008: http://community.livejournal.com/who_got_in/68288.html , you might find some helpful answers.
The school matters here. Only a small handful of English programs (as opposed to comp lit, lit, rhetoric, etc) offer interviews and they seem to be drastically different from each other. Emory flies in their applicant, Stanford does quick phone interviews, Northwestern interviews finalists. Another school (that I can't recall) does interviews for TAships later on in the season. If you're looking at Duke Lit (which is what I'm guessing from your descrption), take a look at this post: http://community.livejournal.com/wgi_lounge_2010/13558.html
