confused about loans when you're not yet in a program...

A few weeks ago, I turned to this community for advice because I am switching fields from Gender Studies to Biological Anthropology and wanted to improve myself as a candidate.

You all were extremely helpful. Big thanks!

I enrolled in a distance learning course in Primatology and I am planning to spend a week in Florida in May doing field work with my subject of interest, lemurs.

My question: I don't know how to pay for any of this. I need about $1200 for the class I'm currently in and $2,000 for the field work. I made it through undergrad without loans, care of money I had worked hard to save and my parents' generosity, both of which have long since run out.

Other notes: The FAFSA only seems to work if you're enrolled in a specific university, and my parents make too much money for me to qualify for most kinds of aid. (I'm 23, will be 24 in July, I've heard when you're 24 you don't have to include your parents?)

I read through the tags on this community for loans... is going to my bank and asking for a loan my best option?

Much thanks, I'm so lost and I really appreciate your help, friends.

finaid, loans
