Web discussion of MFA programs
For those of you who are/have been/will be creative writers applying to MFA programs, Mark Wallace has a discussion of the value and purpose of the MFA and its application process here at Thinking Again, as well as a round-up of links to other creative writers and their perspectives on the process.
Shorter version of his post: MFAs are kinda exploitative, and while you do need a degree from there in order to teach at the university level these days, they don't necessarily enhance your ability to get a job afterwards. They might be useful as long as you are very clear about what you will and won't get out of them.
