I read somewhere that there is going to be a new math section with a fill-in the blank and a new text completion question (my 2010 Princeton Review book.) When will that be? I am taking the test on October 2009.

gre math, gre

I'm taking it on monday. I'd love to be able to skip the rest of the section once I saw the experimental question type. BUT WHAT IF IT ACTUALLY COUNTS?!?!?!?!

Good luck! I will pray for ya.

(I am not one of those religious freaks who says "I will pray for you" for everything but I pray for anybody who is taking the GRE. ha ha)

I took it last month, and the experimental section (mine was verbal) included only new question types, and stated upfront that it was optional and would not count. This was definitely not the way it worked when I took the test last time (two years ago), so maybe being honest rather than sneaky is something new they're trying?

Yeah, I hate ETS. I do not want them to help them since they just hurt me.

I just took it, and I did the same thing. I had to pee, so I politely declined to waste any more energy for those jerks at ETS.

OMG THOSE SCORES ARE WHAT DREAMS ARE MADE OF!!!

I am hoping to at least get +1000. No lie. If I get 500v500q I would walk out dancing (I have test anxiety.)

That's good! More schools should have more realistic expectations about their students. That is a good score to use. I took a pratice and got a pretty low score. However, that was a) my first pratice, b) I rushed, and c) I was going to do it being home alone but my mother came home and I had to help her, so I buzzed through some questions. It made me say to myself, "At least I will do better then [insert horrible score here]."

I work as a professor and wrote an ethnography (outside of class) for him. He said it is "graduate school level writing" and no matter how I do on the GRE that will be a strong pull. I hope he's right.

I am applying to one school that does not use the GRE. None of the schools in my field really have told me a score they expected (Sociology.) I had a phone interview and he said, "It's one of five factors. We get scores all over the place." So, I just want to get a 1000. I got a 1040 on the SAT's when I took them.

What school/discipline is that?

All of my professors are telling me not to worry about the GRE. I am like, "Pfft. Easier said then done."

I have a 3.4 GPA so I am in the same boat. However, I was a double major and one major was not offered at my school so it was created by myself and the Dean of Studies. That major (Theatre) also made a lot of independent courses that I made that tied in theater arts and literature from plays with sociological theory. So, I hope they see that as a sign of independence.

They have less grad apps then you think (unless if it's a really competitive program.) Some schools analyze 15 applications. My top school got 10 applications and accepted 7.
