I plan on going to graduate school for mathematics and was wondering if your undergraduate school affects your chances of admission or not.
I'm almost done with my soph. year at a community college and will transfer out after this year. I will hear back from UC Berkeley, UCLA, Brown, Cornell, RIT, and Western soon.
I always thought I'd prefer the other colleges over Western, but now I'm leaning toward Western Washington University b/c of in-state cost, my plans for grad school, and its student-faculty ratio. I'm just worried that choosing WWU might put me at a disadvantage for grad school, though, since it's not that well known. I could go to the University of Washington, which is considered a lot better, but UW is just way too big for me.
If I were to apply for top graduate schools for mathematics, would they prefer applicants who came from top undergrads over me?
Thanks a lot!!
