Personal statements.
I've written a statement of purpose that I'm very happy with, but now I'm faced with a prompt asking me to write my life history.
"This should be a concise, well-written statement about how your personal background and life experiences, including social, cultural, familial, educational, or other opportunities or challenges, motivated your decision to pursue a graduate degree at the University of ***. This is not an Academic Statement of Purpose, but a discussion of the personal journey that has led to your decision to seek a graduate degree. "
I know many of you are working on something similar (or maybe even the same one) in the form of a personal statement, diversity statement, or life history.
All the sample essays I've read talk about overcoming barriers (social, economic, racial, etc). How are you all approaching it?
