Hi everybody,
I am Vinay S Warrier doing my B E Mechanical Engineering in India. I will be graduating in May 2009, and I have started looking for universities and programs and applying to them. I took my GRE in April and scored 1400/1600 (Q 800/800, V 600/800 and A 3.0/6.0). I recently got my TOEFL scores too. I scored 108/120 (R 28, L 27, S 23, W 30). We don't have a GPA system in our college. But I have an aggregate percentage of 85.75 for my last 6 semesters and would come within the top 3 of the class. I have been doing some research in the field of parallel robots and dynamics and kinematics. I was a Summer Fellow at IIT Madras last May-June.
I am now looking for universities and have decided to select a max of 3 from the top 10 ranked ones, a chunk from the mid ranks and one or two safe schools. Coming to the top schools, I am worried my low 3.0 in Analytical writing might hinder my admission in some way. If not, what if the Analytical score becomes a crunch factor for funding? Any pointers? I also wanted to know if it is ok to mail the profs directly specifying interest to work with them.
