timeline for application process?

Jun 24, 2008 20:29

I'm applying to grad programs in English for fall 2009, so the majority of my applications are due in December/January.

Three question for those of you who have done this before:

1. Are there any good online resources for suggested timelines for the application process? For instance, when is a good time to write a personal statement, edit a writing sample, talk to recommenders, take GRE, etc?

2. When you were applying, when did you do what? Was there anything -- GRE, personal statement, etc -- you wish you'd done sooner or anything you wish you'd waited to do until closer to time to send off applications? When did you end up sending off applications? When did you get all the information to your recommenders? Basically, is there anything just generally that you wish you'd done differently during the summer before your application season?

3. Do you think there's any harm in sending in an application as early as October, even if the due date isn't until December or January?
