Backstory: My boyfriend and I have applied to the same schools in the hopes that we'll get into at least one together, me in biology/biological anthropology and him in (astro)physics.
I have been accepted to two schools so far, one that I applied to because it was great for him, but I loved it when I visited recently. Another that's great for both of us, and I'll be visiting at the end of the month and my prospective advisor really wants me there. I'm really excited about both places.
[vent] He got an email from both of those schools on Friday. One of his recommenders hasn't sent in the letters. This recommender apparently sent letters to every other school except these two. At the start of the process my boyfriend sent a spreadsheet with all of the schools he needed letters for and their deadlines. He sent a separate email every time he entered his recommenders into a school's application module. How did this recommender miss two schools, and why did it have to be these two? The best part? This recommender is on sabbatical this semester, and a few states away.[/vent]
My boyfriend immediately emailed the recommender, mailed him physical letter forms and had the schools resend the electronic information. He'll be going by the recommender's department office today to see if the secretary knows how to get ahold of the guy. And he'll probably be pleading with another professor to write an emergency letter. While I sit here and check who_got_in and thegradcafe and worry.
