I got in! I'm going to be getting my Masters in Applied Political Science from American University! I'm so happy that I'm just sitting here grinning like a moron.

Oh my god, how am I going to pay for grad school?!

What kind of downfalls? Pretty much the only consistent negative I hear about AU is that all the undergrad classes are taught by TAs and the students don't get to benefit from the profs like the grad students do. Tell me more! :)

i have never been taught by a TA nor know anyone who has. i dont know much about poly sci, i've actually never taken a poly sci class (i'm a sociology and women's & gender studies double major). i personally don't care for AU's location. the school is pretty much rich white students, which is hard for someone who came from the working class, like myself, who is working, interning, and taking a full-time load. it is a very business-run school, and the administration is very frustrating. it has others that i am trying to think of, sorry it has been a long day at work. but i do know that AU's poly sci program is superb and have not heard complaints about it. i am sure you will love it!

I didn't go to AU, but the main thing I heard about AU students is just they are so friendly! I'm not sure if that means that the rich white kids are friendly or if it's easy to find your own niche, but hearing that anyone could deem the campus friendly seemed like a big plus to me. At GW it's mostly rich white (and non-white) kids, but they are not friendly nor is it easy to find your own niche.

Congrats on getting in, AU's politics departments are very well regarded. If you can, do update about any potential funding. Since they are well regarded I wasn't sure if they'd bother with aid for Master's students.

when did you get all your stuff in/what was the due date?

I'm trying to have patience on my applications - but that is a trait that no one in my family carries. It's great to hear that others have begun to hear from their schools - but making me overly anxious about hearing from mine.

I had everything except my GRE in on Dec. 8, I took my GRE that day so it was about two/three weeks later that they go everything. I actually just got a postcard yesterday saying that they had everything and would be reviewing it. American does rolling admissions, but their preferred date to have everything in was Feb. 1. It's possible that I just happened to get everything in just in time to catch a admissions committee, but I think it's more likely that they've had my stuff for a couple weeks now and were just behind mailing the postcards to let me know they had all the stuff.

I know that probably doesn't help people who are waiting for the April 15 drop dead date, but I was really surprised by how quickly they turned this around.
