Doing something related to what I want to study in grad school vs. "real-time" job.

My dilemma is as follows:

I just heard to day that when I turn 23 (this Sept) my Dad's company is giving me the boot with health insurance. Of course, my mom went on freak out mode.

My best bet, health insurance wise, is to get a full time job after I graduate in May (i.e. at a bank, whatever...)

However, my plans were to take about a semester-year off when I graduate and partake in internships abroad. I want to go to grad school for international affairs/relations.

Of course, many of these internships do not pay, and likewise, don't have health insurance.

I'm a little bit upset because something as dumb as health insurance is going to prevent me from going abroad.

I don't know what to do. I have an uncompetative cum. GPA (expecting to graduate with a 3.4 at most). So, of course I want to do something within the field that I want to study in grad school.

My best bet is a government job, but yes, they are competative, and secondly, I really want to jet-set and spend sometime abroad...

With my GPA the way that it is, am I going to further hamper my "competitiveness" with a full-time job that is irrelevant to what I want to study? My instinct says yes...but how the hell am i going to get health insurance, or can afford other insurance if I'm going to be doing an internship that doesn't pay? (Hmmm how relevent as we are moving towards campaign 08 LOL).

Happy New Year!
