word limits

Dec 13, 2007 12:55

If I am 20 or so words BELOW the expected word count for a statement of purpose, will that count against me very much?  I just don't think it would read as well if I added even more to it.

They ask for 1000 to 2000 words, and refer to it as brief.  I'm confused anyways.  I'm at 981 or so.

Would you prefer I make the jab directly in the future?

Seriously, what's up with you and your answers?

Your post was just so silly and ridiculous! <20 words off! C'mon now, do you REALLY think they'd notice or care? Do you think the professors even KNOW the exact word limits listed on the website? I'd be surprised.

No, I do not know if they would notice or care, any more than you do. I'm covering my own ass by asking opinions to last-minute detail questions to make sure I'm doing the best job I possibly can on my applications. It's important to me that I get in, and so I'm making sure everything is in order.

How do you choose which people you ridicule in this community?

This is a fun and exciting time in your life. Enjoy the process.

I don't ridicule anyone. I have never called anyone names. People simply get upset with me for setting them straight in a terse, blunt, and unsympathetic manner.

And you try to spark mini-debates.

But not all of us are as self-secure as you are!

And you try to spark mini-debates.

Because this is totally the right place to do that. It even says so in the userinfo:

"So you're applying to graduate school. . . Or thinking about it. . . . Or did it last year, and want to help others in the process. . .Or just want to stir up poo for the hell of it. . .This is the Community for you!"

The implied tone in "settle down" is, to me, insulting. You're talking to me like I'm 5 and I dislike it. Name calling isn't the only way to be insulting and obnoxious. Other people asked just as simple questions as I have and you don't leave snarky comments on their entries. So obviously it's only some people. Just curious what the qualifications are for your response.

Also, do you ever actually answer the questions people ask you?

I haven't read any of adequaticus's other posts, and I'm not sure if "settle down" is offensive or not, but
