James Hansen's recent paper on the subject of atmospheric carbon-dioxide targets. He sets specific policy suggestions about what we should be doing about coal, as well as afforestation. To my mind, this suggests the need to get owners of coal seams to earn more money by keeping it in the ground, than to mine it.
