DVD Review: Freedom 2
So, seeing that there was a holiday discount at Japan Video the other day, I picked up the discounted, but pricey, Freedom 2. Now, perhaps my hardware and visual screen are insufficiently to fully capture the value of this HD DVD, but it was nevertheless a fun & engaging anime short.
Echoing elements of The Moon is a Harsh Mistress, THX 1138, and Akira - this anime explores a survivalist society on a lunar colony, in the style of Akira, with full-on 3D CGI. Beyond gimmicky, the techniques are quite well integrated with the overall production...far better than say, the Ghost in the Shell OAV.
Check it out, but borrow it instead of buying it.
