Actually, I had an idea related to this - there's quite a lot of debate going now regarding just how many ethanol plants (bio-refinery?) have opened up in the past few years, with industry lobbyists using one figure, environmentalists another. I thought a straight-forward approach would be to ask the
ATF precisely how many have opened up in a given year ... surely an ethanol refinery would need a license or permit to produce this type of alchohol, even if it's only for industrial purposes. I also wonder what sort of state(s) alchohol tax exemptions (as well as barrel and bottle strength requirements) these ethanol producers and wholesalers have had to acquire to make this function nationally.
