I'm not about to outline my entire night for you folks here, but i'll tell you this much:
Tonight...Union...by myself...for dinner and to study.
I was completely minding my own business when the core of the MCRI campaign on campus assembled at a nearby table to stuff envelopes with bumper stickers for their campaign.
I merely declined to accept a "vote 'yes' on proposal 2" bumper sticker...which somehow provoked the entirety of the student group to try to convince me, one by one, why i should change my views about the MCRI..
Turns into a full on debate between me (yes, just me) and the wildly conservative folk of this campaign (make note that they ABSOLUTELY initiate it...i can be quoted as stating "Guys, i really just want to read my book right now and go home to bed...", then they push for a simple defense of my position and i can again be quoted as stating that "I recognize my privilege, and i think it is the least i can do to vote 'no' on the proprosal"...they proceed to push and intensify everything into a debate...to the point that one of them comes over and sits down at my table to talk to me..)
I've never even really directly discussed the MCRI aloud with anyone before tonight..
Somehow, I manage to overpower their arguments and essentially win the debate against the wildly conservative folk, so much so that my opposition has nothing more to say and (somewhat angrily) gets up and leaves...
And somehow, in an extraordinary turn of events (pay attention because this is the best part of the story), the night ends with one of the wildly conservative folk ASKING ME FOR MY NUMBER (while all the rest of them awkwardly stare at me awaiting my reply..) so he can call me for "dinner or something..all politics aside"...
HOLY. SHIT.
And i thought the funniest thing i was going to hear this week was that my dad's car *VERY* nearly got stolen at his office downtown on Friday..or that my mom found a dead bat (yes, one of those animals that fly around at night eating insects) under the radiator in our dining room today (incredibly disgusting, i know)...Boy, was I wrong. Tonight definitely takes the cake.
I REALLY hope that kid doesn't call me...
