Our neighbourhood was spared the floods. We don't live along the river and our area is high up. People were still panic buying food and groceries at the local supermarket, snapping up anything they could buy. We were unsure about the water supply for a few days, so I had filled the bathtub up, and we had bottled water. I don't understand why fresh fruit, meat and milk would get bought first. Those kinds of products wouldn't last if the power gets cut. We bought tins of food and noodles. (Noodlapocalypse did not occur).
It's a surreal feeling. After a decade of severe drought and water shortages, the entire region is pretty much devastated by flood damage.People were swept away in Toowoomba and the Lockyer Valley. Homes were lost, completely ruined. Now, the Brisbane city centre has opened up, and people are back to work, public transport is running and the tennis is back on television. Everyone is just getting on with life.
I am sick off work today. Genuinely ill! Nothing much to do but peruse the internet and post on livejournal!
