Also, since my interest in reading On Photography by Susan Sontag was recently re-kindled, here's an idea of hers that resonated; Not a new one, to be sure, but ponder-worthy indeed:

A way of certifying experience, taking photographs is also a way of refusing it--by limiting experience to a search for the photogenic, by converting experience into an image, a souvenir. Travel becomes a strategy for accumulating photographs.

Unsure of other responses, they take a picture. This gives shape to experience: stop, take a photograph, and move on. The method especially appeals to people handicapped by a ruthless work ethic--Germans, Japanese, and Americans. Using a camera appeases the anxiety which the work-driven feel about not working when they are on vacation and supposed to be having fun.

On an un-related note I've been exploring the band Calexico and enjoying what I have found so far. I have also been pleasantly surprised by my delight in Eats, Shoots, and Leaves. I believe it will inspire me to new punctilitory heights. I might even use a semi-colon.
