Rating: PGish
Genre: A fluffy kind of angst somehow; idk.
Notes: Written while I was at the beach, which kinda explains the setting etc I suppose... (And I totally got lazy when giving it a title XD)

As Shige padded down the beach alongside Koyama and Tegoshi, he couldn’t help but smile at the way Koyama looked, dressed in the bare minimum (board shorts of course), ocean breeze fussing with his hair. There was something about the way his hair had grown ever so subtly, usually masked by the styling. But now, in the midst of summer, Shige could tell, as Koyama fussed with the fringe tickling his forehead while the wind played with his locks. Shige was well aware that he was staring at his friend, but somehow he just couldn’t look away. He watched as the boy’s arm lightly brushed against Tegoshi’s as they walked, causing him to smile a little and slip his hand into the other’s. Shige only had a second to be confused at the sudden feeling that filled him before Koyama grasped his hand as well, grinning at him.

Koyama used his hold on both boys to pull them in closer to him, creating a tangle of arms, before shoving Tegoshi as hard as he could manage with a single hand to the right, causing his friend to stumble into the water. He then pulled Shige around in front of him and released his grip. Shige frowned at the loss of contact, but suddenly there were hands on his hips and his mind ran away. Needless to say, the ice cold water that engulfed him soon after was more than enough to send his mind screaming back.

He wanted to complain about his hair, about the fact that he didn’t particularly want to get wet, but there was something comforting about the way Koyama stood slightly bent over, hand resting on his knees, laughing honestly and carelessly. There was also something prodding at his brain that told him tackling the boy would be a more worthwhile option. But the thought confused him so he pushed it away just as Tegoshi jumped out of the water, pulling the older boy back in on top of himself. Though Shige told himself there was nothing his heart should jump into his throat for, seeing the slightly awkward looks on both other boys’ faces made him think that just maybe they had noticed it too.

And therefore Shige felt he had every right to feel out of place. The feeling was pushed aside again as Koyama tackled him back under water. The older boy grinned idiotically as Shige resurfaced, spluttering and gasping for air, hoping it would hide the blush he could feel on his cheeks. The close proximity of the boy, with hands resting casually on the younger one’s stomach, drips rolling off his hair and down his face, chest, stomach… It was more than enough to make him feel such a way towards his best friend that he would die before admitting, and he mentally thanked his baggy shorts and the sandy water surrounding his lower body.

“You were just standing there looking stupid,” Koyama reasoned, apparently not realising the effect he was having on his friend, poking the other’s stomach playfully before turning back to Tegoshi who was muttering something about meeting Massu for lunch.

Shige sunk down until only his head was above water and frowned at himself, declining the offer to return to the hotel with them. “I’ll be up in a minute,” he stated when the other two continued to look at him expectantly. He sighed as they walked back across the sand, Koyama making sure to get a final shove in, sending Tegoshi face first into the white sand. Shige blew bubbles in the salty water and tried to avoid looking up at the two rolling around in a tangle of limbs that looked like a competition to see who could get the other’s face full of sand first. His attempt at thinking of something other than Koyama so he could cool off before getting out of the water and embarrassing himself was failing miserably. He felt his body heat up, despite the cold water, as Koyama pulled his shorts up that had slipped down just a little too much for comfort in the midst of the tackling.

Shige tore himself away and stared out at the ocean, wide, vast and untameable. And it was the fact that you couldn’t control the ocean, no matter how much you tried, that made it almost lonely, but also gave it it’s beauty. And he grimaced as his thoughts had subconsciously returned to his best friend once more.
