Two Recent Proud Mommy Moments:
1) A month or so ago, Nathan wanted a Barbie that changed into a mermaid. So, after being especially brave at the doctor's, we headed off to buy one. He was so excited and very interested in all the things she came with (dolphin, brush, shoes, etc), and thought it was neat that her hair changed color in water.
Sometime in the next day or two, when he was playing with her, he said that he wanted to bring her to school for his share that week. Now, I've got no problem with boys playing with dolls, but given how other people perceive things, I was a bit wary. I replied, "Oh, yeah?" He said yes, then after a moment said, "The boys might make fun of me, but I don't care. I think she's cool." Okie dokie, then. Go for it, kiddo!
Share day came, and when asked how it went, he said "Really good!" The teacher said that some of the kids weren't sure what to make of it, but no one laughed and Nathan said that he liked her because she was like a transformer. :)
2) Last Saturday, there was an easter egg hunt sponsored by parks and rec. It was at a sports complex on the soccer fields, where three sections were marked off and filled with eggs, one for each age group (under 3, 3-4 and 5-7). Right before Nathan's section went (5-7 year olds), the parks person said there were 4,000 eggs on the field, so there was no need to run and push. Everyone lined up, and when the "hunt" (more of a pick-up, really) started, all 4,000 of those eggs were gone in less than a minute. It was like a plague of locusts descended on the field eating everything in its path.
Anyway, when it was over, Nathan said, "I only got 5 eggs!", to which the lady beside us said, "My daughter didn't get any!" So, without being prompted, Nathan asks us, "Can I give her one of mine?" Why, yes, wonderfully thoughtful child of mine, you may.
