The Things That Make You Think

So I'm very much enjoying being engaged. Really, what's not to like? The wedding planning, however, is a little taxing. I've been looking for useful ways to save money on a dress, and a friend of mine recommended the seamstress who did her dress for her two years ago. Rather unexpectedly, the email I got back from the seamstress really helped put everything in perspective. So here it is, with my response:

Dear Jenn,
First of all congratulations!!! This is exciting. I do understand about being on a shoestring but I can't make a dress for that amount of money. Most of my gowns go for $3,000-4,000 currently. I did Ayanna's before I became more in demand.
What I do is different then off the rack. I work one on one with you and you end up getting exactly what you want. I do a muslin mock up of the gown first so that ensures the fit and there an no surprises when the gown is made of the exact material.
The dress is not the thing to cut corners on. It is the most important item of the day. The flowers will die, the food eaten but the pictures will be there for the rest of your life and beyond. You deserve to look beautiful on your wedding day and have that reflected in the photos.
I do understand that you are on a budget. I don't know anyone who isn't. But if you knew how much your dream dress was going to be, couldn't you earn the money for it? Or is someone willing to help you out?
Let me know if you change your mind. I am very good at what I do and you won't be disappointed with the product that I can make. It's a lot of fun to make your gown and you as the bride have a huge say in the dress. You pick all the materials.
Good luck with your wedding. You could always try David's Bridal if money is really an issue. I know people who have got gowns there at one of their sales. The other option would be buying a pattern and if you know someone who can sew maybe they can make it for you. That would be more economical as well.

Thanks for contacting me.
take care,
Debbie

Hi Debbie,

Thanks for your thoughts and your well wishes! Unfortunately, I already work a 60-hour week and am a notary public on the side, and my fiance works longer hours than I do, so our options for earning extra money are limited, and we'd rather reserve asking for assistance for those items we truly can't manage on our own. There are lots of dresses out there that are in my price range and well enough made that I won't feel the need to redo every stitch myself, and even if they're not exactly what I originally envisioned, I can still look and feel beautiful. Fortunately, to me, the most important item of the day is my groom, and I haven't cut a single corner there. I wish the rest of the brides out there could be half so lucky.

Thanks again for your thoughts, and I hope your business continues to flourish.

Jenn
