Even I will allow, there are some movies that we like, or do not like, for reasons which are completely personal. Remakes of movies based on books to begin with have more than their fair share of minefields to encounter.

I didn't mean to jab quite so hard last night.

No worries--I didn't mean to be quite so forcefully opposed to the film (I was a little more reasonable in my lj). I'm choosing to attribute both to the brussel sprout soda.

We're going to be blaming that stuff for everything now, aren't we?

Absolutely. I'm going to work my way up to global warming and the 2004 election some time this afternoon.

The film ain't bad, and I am a fanatic of the miniseries too, but the commercials for it made me gag. That whole "you and I collide" song being played to a period piece?- bad, bad move. Bingley is played like those cute, bumbling Hugh Grant characters that stick their feet in their mouth all the time, but this movie does get points for casting a Darcy that more "lug-like" than most. Though I like Darcy, I never imagined him as that handsome and that universally desirable- aside from the money that is. If you do make the decision to see it on video, try to avoid the last scene. The last two minutes of the movie are really the only painful things to watch- that and moving her father's abode from the study to the green house.
