another fundie thing

I know I recently posted that link to that site that had quotes from fundies saying all sorts of stuff..well I saw one in the rss feed about xenotransplantation.

I had to reply to that guy's post, of course, but looking at some of the numbers I got made me think a bit...

Snippet from my reply, lacking formatting and stuff:
Almost 100,000 people in the United States alone, child or adult, need an organ or two or even something like five right now. That number is nowhere near close to global figures. Your lack of knowing anyone who does [need a transplant] does not mean those people don't exist....Last year, 6016 people in the US died waiting for a transplant, some barely born, others over 60...

If you came up with 17 friends and family members you can't live without, give or take a couple..like say, moms, dads, aunts, boy/girlfriends, best friend since 1st grade...and they all died in one day while waiting for something that might have made their lives just a little bit longer...and this happened every single day..that's six thousand people a year (do you know that many people that would affect your life if they passed away?). If 5-6 more friends a day got too sick waiting for it..thats the same as another two thousand people a year ineligible for a transplant that originally had a chance.

Accidents happen, so not all six thousand deaths can be attributed to lack of a necessary organ, but even if half were due to accidents and the other half could have survived with a transplant in time, that's still thousands of people.

Wonder what kind of difference it would make if more people donated organs.

tragedy, health, flame wars
