I miss jPod.

So, I don't usually watch non-US/South Korean TV and movies, but this is a massive exception.

I am an avid fan of Douglas Coupland. Name any novel of his and I probably have it and have read it more than once. Well, jPod was one of the books I absolutely adored, and CBC made a TV show out of it! Not living in Canada to watch online or on the TV but having the benefit of BitTorrent, I watched this show usually the same day it aired. Watched some episodes more than once. I love this show, it was one of the few that I actually would watch the whole way through and not feel like it was a waste of time...and that's unusual for me, cause not even my favorite shows like House make me feel that way about every single episode. Originally I wasn't that much of a fan, but a couple episodes into it I really started to like it.

Anyway, CBC pulled a Fox and moved jPod to shitty times, fucked up airing the episodes in order, didn't air one episode, and ended up canceling the show prematurely because of bad ratings...sound familiar? :) Thankfully jPod got a good ending, unlike Firefly. But here's to hoping it may get un-cancelled.

So, this show is about a bunch of people who all share last names starting with J thanks to a HR glitch at the game company they work at, hence the name "jPod". It's basically a story revolving around a character named Ethan, his family, his coworkers and work. It involves a lesbian commune with a fake boob doorbell (below) run by a woman who names her son "crow well mountain juniper" (without caps), one of the Podsters in jPod who renames himself John Doe and tries to be as normal as possible...and spends time with his dominating Chinese girlfriend Bree with the obligatory Asian parents. It involves a Chinese mobster named Kam who loves Ethan's father Jim because Jim used to be a well-known ballroom dancer before retiring to act. Kam willingly kidnaps people to send for "reeducation" in one of his sweatshops in China if you just ask. And how could you forget Kaitlin, the crazy girl with so many issues that falls in love with Ethan? Cowboy's addiction to cough syrup and love of all things sex? Steve the boss who loves to stalk Ethan's mom? Meanwhile, all the Podsters are working on a video game and there are skateboarding turtles getting heads chopped off cause Steve has a son who loves turtles and Steve wants to win his love by putting turtles in a violent video game.

I mean, it's such an amazing adaptation of the book. It is a funny and geeky..enough show. It is just SO GOOD. And not only is it so awesomely good but also they use music from some of my favorite artists. When's the last time you heard Honeycut and Bonobo and Chromeo and Tegan & Sara and Datarock ALL on a TV show?!

AND THOSE FUCKERS CANCELLED IT.

Sigh.

I just finished watching the 13th and last episode. I cried, not only because it was canceled but also because of what happens in the episode.

GAH!

Oh, I forgot. Obligatory link to a "Save jPod" petition. Why these never work for good shows (jPod, Firefly) but do for shit ones (Jericho) is beyond me.
