So, like, I doubt there are very many people reading in the LA area, but here goes:
Next weekend is SCALE - the
Southern California Linux Expo. As geeky as that sounds..it's actually fairly interesting. They're having a few all-day Friday events before the actual expo, and one of them is on
women in open source. As little as I participate in projects, I'll be going on Friday..should be fun meeting up with other women. Don't know about the rest of the events though.
Way later in February is a
Microsoft event with a Steve Ballmer keynote. As in, the
Steve Ballmer. I think I'm only going to watch him, get free food, and get free software. And to learn stuff about windows server 2008..*cough*.
And, at the very beginning of March is
yet another BarCamp. This time I swear I should do a presentation but I don't know what to do it on. Lately I've been obsessing on this mix of web application security, i18n and usability/a11y. But those three topics are sorta boring. Something about Joomla, maybe? Scala (lol)? I'm sure it would be a total hit to have a presentation on p2p and bittorrent -_- (please don't come after me with lawyers, mafiaa :\ ).
I'm probably forgetting a lot more events (geek dinners and lunch 2.0s) going on, bleh.
I could have sworn that even this time last year there weren't so many events! It's nice to know there are that many more events nearby where I can go hide in the corner with my laptop and occasionally step out of the shadows to meet new people. :P
