my iPhone sucks :(
Originally uploaded by zomgwtf My mom bought a new phone today, and surprisingly, it's not an iPhone. She likes mine, but it wasn't the right phone for her. She was sort of interested in other smartphones (blackberry curve/pearl, tilt, blackjack) but thought they were too complicated to handle vs. the iPhone. So she got herself the only half decent non-smartphone slider AT&T offered - the samsung a737. fairly nifty :)

So basically, the first thing she did in the middle of the at&t store was to call my phone to make sure at least that worked before she walked out, when much to our surprise I discovered a genius usability feature. Big text wee high on a tiny ass display, high contrast bright orange sans-serif text on black background. It was bigger, bolder and more readable than the iPhone's, too.

My mom automatically fell in love with a phone she wasn't struggling to see without reading glasses, but then here's what happened. I called back her number from my phone.

Whoops, why is it showing up so small :(

The next 10 minutes I flipped through the manual and the phone menu trying to figure out how to change that so names and numbers would show up at least acceptably large and shrink accordingly.

But it's not there.

What kind of fucking retarded idea was that. I was so happy for a split second that SOMEONE had the sorta genius idea to implement that in the first place. Now not so much knowing that it's sorta useless. If you're gonna let users choose what kind of font/color they want to display digits, why can't they do that for incoming calls too?
