Honestly my mind cant seem to wrap around the truth. as i type i cant help but struggle in disbelief. When you see death in movies... it is sad, but in your head you always think to yourself "that will never happen to me". Ive seen war movies. Ive seen it when the soldiers show up at the doors of loved ones to tell them that their family member has passed away in combat. But never in my life... would i ever expect a thing like that to happen around me. Ive had My brother in-law in the marines. I have had a close friend in the marines, my broher is enlisted in the airforce. Then there is Mike McGahan, an army soldier. a family friend that i have know for years. He is Miranda's love of her life. They had just been married back in november before he was deployed. On June 7th. during my graduation party which was tonight. Around 8:00 Miranda, Ladd, Leslie and Kristen left my party in a panic because they found out that the helicopters were at there house looking for Miranda... Everyones mind went straight to the horrific idea that Mike had died. I thought about it... but at the same time i couldnt beleive it. and i didnt want to think about it if i wasnt positive. As i tried to entertain all my guests at my party, my mind couldnt help but wonder to what possiblities could have brought the army men to Mirandas door step. Mike couldnt be dead? Does that really even happen? No.. it cant. I kept telling myself. Rose kept breaking down. we were all waiting for an answer... the minute i saw joey letting his guard down.. and tears forming in his eyes i couldnt help but worry alot more then i was before. be everyone told me to keep having fun because they still did not have an answer. Finally we got a phone call saying that is was a casualty unit that was waiting at the door step. They had left but were coming back to meet with Miranda. As i sat in the pool i turned around when Joey started to break down. as rose started to scream out. and as my mom held on the joey with tears in her eyes. i ran out of the pool and just grabbed joey and held him. We all knew. But still waited for the exact phone call that told us at 9:06 that Mike really had died. In my mind i dont want to believe it. Through these past couple hours. All i do is think of Mikes Face. I think of his smile. I can imagine him on thanks giving at our table. I can imagine him playing poker with us in our dineing room, i can imagine him sitting on our back porch with everyone around the fire, but most of all....i can imagine him on his wedding day. As i think of that face....i CANT imagine him dying. It cant be true i tell myself. This cant happen to someone i know! Mike cant be gone. He was stationed in Afghanistan. We still dont know what was the cause of his death. My mind has been going in circles. I cant handle seeing my brother in such a hard state. I am soo concerned for Miranda. She is such a loving, beautiful amazing women! Mike was her love and she didnt deserve this. This will be so hard on her. and alls i want to do is hug her and take her pain away.
REST IN PEACE
MIKE MCGAHAN
WE LOVE YOU
