Re: Colin Enno Diederich III abysmaldream April 7 2008, 00:34:13 UTC
The latter happened, though they received a good amount of letters, Enno didn't understand why his parents had left, or better yet, didn't want to understand. He considered it an injury he couldn't recover from(Which he'd eventually learn was untrue), and despite loving his grandfather very much was the first one out the door at age 17. Keeping in very regular contact with his grandfather and brothers, he traveled the world.

Quickly, he became famous due to his willingness to help everyone he felt was diserving. His work drew attention from everyone, leading to more job offers, attempts on his life, and offers of permanent positions. Such was the life of a mercenary. Such was the life of a career Dietrich.

Eventually, Enno met someone he would eventually come to call a friend; Felix Lucius Abel. Traveling with him for some years helped Enno grow very much as a person, as Lucius was a very worldly man, with a fondness for women, as well as some men. A fact Enno found himself unable to deal with for most of their time traveling together, to the point where Enno would almost beg Lucius to chase women in towns to cut down on the awkwardness. His fame rose until he was more of a rumor, since the supposed secret of his success was the fact he couldn't die. A fact people balked at for obvious reasons. So Enno sank into a realm of obscurity, but stayed almost constantly busy.

A year passed, then two, and finally a third. On a fateful day in one of the towns that dabbled in the non-human slave market, a practice Enno would have demolished the town for, if it might have accomplished a perpose, he found a small white and black dragonness for sale. Although he was against the purchase, he went on a feeling and made it. Discarding the birdcage added in for free, she found a spot on Enno's shoulder.

More time passed, and he named the little female Wari. As it continued on she became a friend, and able to change her size so he or Lucius might be able to ride her like a horse. Traveling around a few more years yielded the ability for her assume a human form, and from there... She and Enno entered into a relationship.

Personality: As a person, Enno is quiet unless he knows a person well. He does embark into occasional forays of conversation, but only if he has a marked interest, or is in a pleasant mood. His affections are almost non-existent to anyone save Wari, which is only half-true. He deeply cares for family and friends, but Wari is the only receipiant of his most obvious displays. He has a good heart, and is therefore a good person, fittingly considering himself so. He always considers his actions and judgements moral and good, sadly this allowed him to be misled in the past. While it sharpened his judgement of others, it's led to several questions of his own ethics.

    Background setting: Hard_Wired Fantasy

In this universe things are controlled by Stride, and Gait. Omnipotent, they run all of everything in their little corner of existence in their dimension/world/reality/etc.

They do however denote many smaller beings to help them run things. A big example would be the elementals, three beings with the control of the six 'physical' elements; Fiegunsius (Water/Ice), Bieombe (Fire/Earth), Volphgaard (Air/Thunder). The full list is nine elements; Air, Dark, Earth, Fire, Ice, Light, Non-Elemental, Thunder, Water, with Non-Elemental being the central balance to the other eight.

Elemental alignment extends to everything, even the humans and non-humans. Let's explain non-humans though. Non-human is a generic term to classify a being of human-level intelligence(or above) that can exist in a human form, or an animal form. So, in reality, you could be talking to a non-human and not realize it unless you know the 'tells' which we won't go into here.

The setting is post-modern, though Stride and Gait like to reminisce on the past lives of the people they watch. The location usually centered around "The Lab". "The Lab" is the home to Hybrids; artificially created non-humans. Derived anywhere from test-tubes to human experimentation, the eventual goal is to make all human life into non-humans to put a definite end to the racial gap that human unconsciously make due to the fact that non-humans are different. It sounds great, in theory, but perhaps the one presiding over "The Lab" lost their way on the moral means to this end. The lives Stride and Gait watch are also usually tied in some way, however loosely, to the Diederich family, pillars of strength.

Technology wise, the world is rebuilding with a cheat sheet. Basically the world is starting over in a sense. For example, there are cell phones, but no ocean liners. Why? Communication was desperately need to unite the peoples of the world before trade commerce could hope to be restarted. Some areas of the world are close to the real world, but not quite, and others seem mired in an almost medieval setting due to location and lack of interest. Politics consists of mayors elected by popular vote, but there is not enough organization for anything higher, though that doesn't usually stop commerce from having an almost equal say in what goes on with a town.

Physical description: Enno stands at six feet, two inches. His short crop of black hair is very spiky, but manageable. He sees the world with hazel eyes and a fairly blank expression in most situations. He somehow has the look of a hero, the kind that inspires confidence and trust. When he smiles, a rare event, it's a genuine one and makes him look rather handsome. He keeps a muscular frame, meaning he is fit and healthy, without being over bulked. His work usually requires some agility inaddtion to strength. He is somewhat pale, and complains about burning if out in the sun too long, though he never does. For his dress, he usually wears a button-up short sleeve, khakkis, and boots. His sense of style is somewhat plain, and while he looks nice; he could very easily look much nicer. For "work" he wears a suit of armor, without a helmet, and without a shield; only a sword strapped to a hip.

Sample RP: A cool breeze blowed. Enno ignored it. The cold bothered him certainly, but he would be out of it soon. The key was focusing on the task at hand. A twig snapped close by. He froze in place, listening.

Already he was regretting the job. A good cause was a good cause, but even he was allowed a moment of selfishness in not wanting to be out in the cold. Carefully his hazel eyes took in his surroundings, suddenly spotting broken movement. In a flash he was upon it, running full out.

A screech and hiss sounded, then more running. Finally, a yowl sounded and Enno let a hiss of his own escape his lips as pain flashed across his mind. It was done.

Stepping out of the snowy forest, he had the women's pet cat tucked carefully under one arm protectively, the claw marks on his face already closing and fading, though his memory of them would linger yet a while longer. Still, he had helped someone, and didn't even have to resort to violence, he was happy, and it showed in the mysterious half-smile on his face.

Sample post: ...Network? Where am I? Why can't I just use a cellphone?

...It is regrettable. I doubt I'll find much peace here, and all I really want is to retire, yet your currency does not match my own...

I am Colin Enno Diederich III. My services are for hire, if you're curious what they are and what I can do, please contact me.

Thank you for your application. Unfortunately, the character interpretation was not sufficiently convincing and there was some concern regarding gameplay and his regeneration abilities. Also, we don't feel that his background and the background of his world especially match. Therefore, we're having difficulty understanding this character and your interpretation of him. Feel free to submit a new application during the next application week, and just as free to inquire a mod [messenger contact preferably] as to the reasons behind the rejection.
