giving.

for quite awhile now, i have been interested in doing some volunteer work abroad. i wanted to do it before i started my current job, but timing wasn't quite right. the economy isn't exactly helping any prospects of a new job, but i think i found a really good solution for the time being.

i want to do this. http://www.crossculturalsolutions.org/where_you_can_go/peru/lima/default.asp very very very very much. i don't know why i am thinking about peru...but it just seemed to make sense to me for right now. i think i am going to volunteer for 2 weeks in may, and then have an extra week for getting there and back and doing some neato stuff while i am down there. hopefully that is enough time. i should have three weeks of vacation saved up by then (or technically exactly the 12 working days i would need to take as vacation thanks to holidays and my 9/80 schedule), but i am going to ask work to donate some time to my cause. i think they might go for it. my boss is for it...just gotta get the higher ups to sign off on it.

anyway, i am really excited about the possibility of doing this. i would love to do it before may, but with that silly bike race shindig on april 26, i definitely do not have time to take 3 plus weeks off of work. that and i am gone for 2 weeks over christmas, and i took almost two weeks to go to europe in september, and another week before that to go to europe in june. it seems like i get a lot of vacation time, but i actually just hoard it for super cool things like going to peru.
